Business informatics (BI) is an integrative discipline combining Economics, Business Administration andInformation Technology (IT). The Academic programs combining Information Technology and Business Management are though already existing in many countries with different nomenclature but Business Informatics was first used in Germany (in German: Wirtschaftsinformatik). It is now an established academic discipline including Bachelor, Master, Diploma and PhD programs in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and is establishing in an increasing number of other countries as well as Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland and India.
As a result of initial Brain-storming an elective named Business Informatics was floated in Jan to June 2019 Semester with interested B.Tech.IT students (6th Sem) of the Institute opting in.In IIIT-A, the specialization Business Informatics was started by bringing Business Management in technology domain and the B.Tech. program in Business Informatics was introduced in the year 2019 after a series of Brainstorming sessions involving Faculty members and Business and Industry professionals. It would not be exaggeration to say that Business Informatics emerged from the profound demand from Academia and Industry both.
shows similarities to Information Systems (IS), which is a well-established discipline originating from North America. However, there are a few differences that make business informatics a unique own discipline:
Business informatics includes information technology, like the relevant portions of applied computer science, to a larger extent than information systems do.
Business informatics includes significant construction and implementation-oriented elements. I.e. one major focus lies in the development of solutions for business problems rather than the ex post investigation of their impact.
Business Informatics was born International as many of its planners had extensive experience of International academics working in the organizations of repute. To involve a genuine and lasting interest from Stakeholders….a systematic approach was adapted in introducing BIn@IIITA...International Resource personnel and Practitioners and Consultants from reputed Firms alongwith the Faculty Group had undergone brainstorming with External Experts ( both from Academia & Industry…from India & Abroad) to structure the program…A mandatory course on ‘Foreign Language and Intercultural studies’ was incorporated to let the students learn Languages like German / French etc in the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).
